peter-haywardPeter J. W. Hayward conceptualized the Hayward’s Grand Safari Company in 1993 – a ‘world-first’ 5 Star mobile tented safari hotel. He is an active hands on owner and enjoys creating incredible safari events for his clients.

MANAGEMENT

Each safari event is run by an active team on a one on one basis. We have a senior management team of approximately nine staff and our crew can expand and contract by up to ninety. This means that the same team taking your brief actually delivers the product originally promised to you.

PIONEERING NEW CONCEPTS FOR THE EVENT INDUSTRY & TOURISM

As event specialists in the great African outdoors, we cater primarily to two distinct markets. PRIVATE PARTIES & CORPORATE EVENTS.

We do this on a GRAND STYLE.  Groups of between forty (40) and two hundred (200) are handled professionally in well-equipped camp environments that epitomize the great safaris of yesteryear.

When I started out the ‘unwritten rule’ was that tented camps should not exceed 16 beds. This excluded groups from great wilderness safari areas throughout southern Africa. To this day groups cannot access certain magnificent regions – unless they hire Hayward’s Safaris of course!

I went on to develop the very first large safari camps (for 80 -120 beds + 40 crew) in deserts and big 5 Game reserves between 1993 and 1999 for FILM CREWS and the odd brave INCENTIVE GROUPS.

Since 1999, with upgraded and custom designed tents, my teams and I have provided VIP luxury mobile tented camp services for private wedding events, hosted many international celebrities, numerous leading business tycoons for their illustrious dining banquets and industry farewells and been of award winning service to multinational companies with incredible alternatives to launch their products in inhospitable ‘never been done before’ regions.

These upmarket, top drawer tented safari camps for larger VIP groups have resulted in a string of award recognitions for Hayward’s such as the Award Winning (EIBTM – Best Event; Best Product Launch; The Meetings Africa / Best Event) product launches and awards and nominations for various ECO Friendly campaigns ).

It has been an exciting 20 years for me personally, developing Hayward’s for group event and becoming the leading tented hotel concept in Southern Africa.

A NEW ERA IN MOBILE SAFARIS

Hayward’s Grand Safari mobile hotel was created in recognition of the last 1000 years of trader safaris and expeditions in Africa. Since then Hayward’s has been growing organically each year as different tent designs have come into service and the comfort of the camp has seen continuous upgrades in the last 15 years.

A GRAND SAFARI NO DOUBT

Today Hayward’s represents the best mobile tented hotel of its size in Africa complete with the original Hayward’s Gin Tent (seating 150 for dining), an Indaba Conference Tent (seating 150  cinema style),  various breakaway tents, Safari Hair Salons, Revitalization Anti Stress Centre, a full Safari Club complete with cigar humidors, library and lounging plus behind the scenes, kitchens, sculleries and 100 en-suite bedroom tents and a full crew camp accommodating 90 staff!

In a Big 5 game reserve with lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant visiting us periodically, it also has a long list of safety precautions in place.  Hayward’s is undoubtedly an unsurpassed authentic safari experience and a feather in South Africa’s tourism hat.

When mobilized and en route with over 20 trucks, Hayward’s consists of over 400 tons of equipment and constitutes more than 38’000 items needed to build the all service venue ensuring maximum guest comfort.

When you go to this much trouble to set up shop, there is no point in tasteless mediocre food!

Six to Eight course dinners, roving picnic luncheons, al fresco bush breakfast and high teas call for another type of forethought. Food itself in the middle of the wilderness takes huge imagination. A typical Hayward’s grand safari would cater for as many as 2800 meals over a 12 – 15 day product launch / event run by a 12 person Chef team. Imagine the logistics of serving 1728 fresh Bread Rolls, 216 assorted loaves of bread, 1000 Croissants & Danish Pastries, 3 tons of Fresh Fruit and Veg, 174 kg Chicken Fillet, 80 kg Oryx, 200 kg Beef Fillet, 100 kg Lamb Chops, 108 Racks of Lamb, 1500 Fresh Oysters, 110 kg Tiger Prawns, 70 kgs Mussels, 40 kgs Crayfish, 120 kg Calamari well over 2000 eggs! Over 30’000 litres of water daily is needed for ablutions alone.

PROVIDING A MORE ECONOMICAL OPTION

The HAYWARD’s SAFARI SANCTUARY is HQ for the group. It is situated just 75km from the OR Tambo International Airport and 23km north east of Pretoria in the Bobbejaansberg Private Nature Reserve and adjoins the DINOKENG BIG 5 Reserve near the historic diamond mine of Cullinan (home of the famed Cullinan Diamond)

This seasonal camp concept, provides a great alternative for groups wishing to reduce travelling time, logistics and unnecessary costs

Ms Celia du Preez, a veteran safari campaigner for Hayward’s and in her 8th year at the company, is Peter Hayward’s Deputy Camp Manager and also the Executive Production Officer of the company ensuring quotations and safari productions are simultaneously handled to perfection. Her team of administrators and production staff are dedicated to keeping the Hayward’s flag flying for outstanding safari service.


Uniquely, Hayward’s Grand Safari Company has achieved a 5 STAR Status Grading by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa since 2008 for their mobile safari camp concept.
