Well, what can Gauteng possibly offer the avid safari group I hear you say?
I have always been in awe of this place and it is truly one of my favourites when it comes to “digging deep” into my own spiritual time track. Its majestic views of the gold Reef of Johannesburg when looking south and its grand views over the ancient Magaliesberg when looking north, place this big group safari experience in the top 5 in southern Africa – even though it’s a mere 45 minutes drive from Sandton.
The Cradle of Humankind concession comprises of over 25’000 hectares of prime highveld savannah interspersed with dolomite hills and ravines.
Here is the last place in the province of gold that remains largely untouched botanically and boasts a magnificent private game reserve with many of the highveld’s endemic species – from giraffe, zebra, kudu to sable and even rhino to ever present leopard, hyena, jackal, baboon, vervet monkeys and honey badger. But it’s greatest treasure has to be the dolomite caves with layer upon layers of millions of years of fossils.
Not only that, our concession has one of the world’s most profound discoveries of complete hominid skeletal remains recently discovered and now under guarded excavation.
Apart from the fauna and flora, riverine systems and life giving springs, one can join our appointed paleontological researchers on a voyage of man’s earliest history into one of the world’s most exciting safari expeditions. Six geological systems overlay each other in exposed rock formations of over 2 billion years of earth’s history.
THIS IS A SACRED SAFARI – a discovery of life’s tenacity taking you beyond history where time is measured in millions of years uncovering the jigsaw puzzle of the possible origins of humankind. This safari includes thousands of hominid fossils, stone tools and artifacts dating back 1- 4 million years.
There are 12 research sites within the area – Sterkfontein Caves, Swartkrans, Kromdraai, Gondolin, Plovers Lake, Wonder Cave, Drimolen, Haasgat, Coopers B, Gladysvale, Minaars and Bolts Farm.
