Hayward’s Safari SanctuaryBobbejaansberg Private Nature Reserve, Dinokeng Region
Set in the greater Dinokeng Region (Place of Rivers) of Gauteng Province of South Africa, is the acclaimed headquarters of the Hayward’s Grand Safari Company approximately 24 km north east of Pretoria.
This 2’500 acre private game reserve is comprised of rolling sedimentary hills and magnificent Transvaal bushveld interspersed with savannah grasslands. It adjoins the BIG 5 DINOKENG GAME RESERVE of 30’000 hectares. The region boasts well over 300 bird species, vast indigenous boekenhout & African syringa forests habituated by various antelope species with recorded sightings of leopard, brown and spotted hyena and caracal. Guests will also encounter baboons, vervet monkeys, and even rare and elusive species such as pangolin, civet, genet and aardvark whilst on walks. Easy access by helicopter, shuttle bus or steam train transfers can be arranged.
The sanctuary is an ideal reserve for photography, walking, hiking, mountain biking, guided game drives, hot air ballooning, 4×4 trails and as a base from which to set off each day on an exploration of the rural villages within the region including Cullinan, home of the world’s biggest diamond ever found.
Due to its close proximity to the cities of Tshwane and Johannesburg, big overnight events are more cost effective when run from here. At the Sanctuary, amazing gala events, weddings, launches and private dinner parties are offered under 1800’s safari style expedition canvas. Accommodation of 100 tented en suite bedrooms and dining seating up to 150 guests are handled in 5 star tented camp elegance.
Activities and facilities include: A large choice of camp activities, from hot air ballooning, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, archery and horse trails and camel trekking, to guided game drives, Ndebele tribal welcomes, great bush walks, 4×4 trails and various excursions all from this 2500 acres of private game reserve.
