Phunda Maria, which is a beautiful, quiet, elephant-infested area in the northern region of the Kruger National Park is a quick 45 minute charter flight from Johannesburg to Phalaborwa.

The game drive into the camp area will take a gentle two hours with stops at some of the Kruger camps en route for lunch.

Once there the topography changes into giant baobab and Leadwood forests and rivers are full of crocodiles lazing on the banks.  At the confluence of the Limpopo River the Peace Park region encompassing South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique can be accessed.

Expect outstanding encounters with the Big 5, vast herds of elephant and buffalo frequent this region of the park, tracked consistently by ever present lion and hyena.

Near your campsite at Kruger National Park, an ancient village ruin recently discovered –  Thulamela Hills.  Dating back to around 1200 AD, the ruins are believed to be the remains of a late-Iron-Age settlement.

The campsite is totally under the shade of very tall trees, completely sheltering this area – so ideal all year round.
